Kids Belong is an effort to gather churches together in an effort to spread the word about domestic adoption and foster care. It began when local churches began to ask how we are caring for children in our community who are in crisis because of abuse and/or neglect, and what we can do about it.
This is what we believe
1. KIDS BELONG in families. They do not belong in institutions or orphanages or group homes. A good family environment can make a bigger influence on a child’s life than possibly any other aspect of the child welfare system. If a child can not be with their biological family, then a good family is the best place for them.
2. We need more good foster homes and adoptive homes. All around us in our community there are children who need good, stable environments in which they can heal and grow and thrive.
3. If you make people aware of the need and then give them clear steps to take, they will help! BELONG is spreading the word about domestic foster care and adoption as well as helping connect those who want to help (at whatever level) with the right opportunities and programs.
How does a child without responsible parental influence know how to become a responsible adult? Who is going to model the way for them? There is a great need in West Michigan for Christian families to step up and fill the parenting void that foster children and adoptable children have.
This is a great calling of the Church. Adoption isn’t just a good idea, it’s part of the Church’s Christian identity. Religion according to the Bible is as much about doing good as it is about being good. If you are a Christian, part of your heritage is that you were adopted by God!
Where a great need meets a great calling, great things can happen. Kids Belong is about making that connection.
